Barbara Wilson
Barbara has been a resident of Lubbock for only two years. She moved here from Abilene, Texas where she was very active in the art community. She was a member of the Center for Contemporary Arts where she held several different offices in the artist organization. Barbara was also a member of the Creative Arts Organization and The Big Country Art Organization in which she also held numerous officer positions. Barbara was an art instructor in Abilene and has continued utilizing her talents here in Lubbock. She has exhibited in group, solo, and juried shows in the Big Country Area where she was honored with several awards. At present she is a member of the West Texas Watercolor Society and a Watercolor Instructor at the Garden and Arts Center. Barbara has been painting on a mural on a well house at the South Plains Wildlife Rehabilitation Center where she is a volunteer.
Barbara has a B.A. from Hardin-Simmons, Abilene, TX, with a major in Art and Psychology. She studied metal jewelry at McMurry University and has Master's hours in Art Therapy. Barbara has put her education to unique use by working in the Activity/ Recreational Department of a Psych Hospital, Alzheimer Care Center, and as a Graphic Artist for the Abilene Reporter News. At present she is working at Covenant Hospital in the Mental Health Unit Therapeutic Recreation Department. Her watercolor classes are offered monthly at the Garden and Arts Center.
